Yacht

Yacht is originaly light, fast boat to transport wealthy people. Lately yacht became motor-sailing vessel, intended for sport or tourism purposes. Sailing yachts are most popular. The first mentions ablout the sport sailing yachts belong to the XVII century.

The modern usage of the term yacht

In modern usage of the term yacht means three different classes of vessels: sailboats, sailing-motor and motor yachts. Traditionally, yachts were different from working ships mainly purpose - as a quick and comfortable way to transport rich people. Almost all modern sailboats have auxiliary engine (outboard motor) for maneuvering in port or cruising at low speed in the absence of wind.

Sailing Yachts

According to the purpose sailboats divided into cruising, with a cabin and designed for long hikes and races, dinghy - for walking the coastal zone.

By the shape of the body yachts differentiate into keel yachts, which bottom goes into the ballast keel (false keel), increasing stability of the yacht and prevents its demolition (drift) during the course of sailing, shallow-draft (dinghy), with a retractable keel (centerboard) and compromises with the ballast and sliding keels.


There are double-hulled yachts - catamarans, yachts three-hulled- trimarans and multihulled - polimarans (eg pentamarans).

Yachts cfn be single-mast and poly-mast with different rigging.
